Design Intent
The Dancing Lady Cabinet began as an exploration of how expressive surface, structural logic, and functional storage could coexist within a single disciplined system.

Rather than treating the doors as applied ornament, the front elevation was developed as a composite structure—welded steel defining the primary geometry, with carved wood panels forming the surface.

This hybrid construction allows the facade to function simultaneously as structure, enclosure, and visual language, while remaining inseparable from the cabinet’s internal organization.

Exterior Form
The exterior form is organized around a welded steel framework that establishes proportion, alignment, and movement.

Within this armature, hand-shaped and dyed wood panels are fitted and finished to create a continuous sculptural field.

The steel outlines register the underlying geometry, while the carved wood fields modulate depth, light, and texture across the facade.

Interior System
Behind the composite door system, the interior is organized as a complete storage architecture rather than a neutral container.

Adjustable shelving, integrated drawers, and consistent material transitions establish a hierarchy of use that supports long-term adaptability.

The internal structure was developed concurrently with the exterior, ensuring that spatial efficiency, structural integrity, and visual continuity operate as a unified system.
Structural Framework
Each door is built around a welded steel frame that carries both the wood panels and the hinge system under continuous load.

This armature establishes long-term dimensional stability while allowing the carved wood surfaces to function as integral structural components rather than applied skins.

Exposed welds and forged transitions are intentionally retained, documenting the construction process and reinforcing the cabinet’s architectural logic.

Detail & Craft
Surface transitions between steel and wood are resolved through sustained hand shaping, fitting, and finishing.

Dyed wood panels are carved, compressed, and refined to align precisely with the surrounding metal framework, creating continuous visual and structural connections.

These details are not decorative additions, but material and construction decisions that accumulate to define the cabinet’s durability and character.

Materials & Systems
Primary materials include welded steel framing, solid American walnut panels, and integrated walnut hardwood interiors.

Door panels are dyed and hand-shaped before being fitted into the steel armature, ensuring dimensional stability and long-term performance.

All surfaces are finished using a multi-step protective system developed in the studio to preserve texture while supporting daily use.
